Tall ships are making a return to Victoria’s Inner Harbour June 26-29 for four days of history and revelry.
The festival relies on volunteers to make it a success and organizers are hoping CF members will offer up their free time.
Volunteer coordinator for public safety and security, Lesley Quinn said she is still looking for security staff for the event.
“It’s a natural match for military; they have the training already,” she says.
Those wanting to volunteer can do so online at www.tallshipsvictoria.ca.
More than two dozen tall ships from around the world will fill the harbour and open their brow to visitors for an up-close look at maritime history. The ships will dock at Enterprise site, where Wharf and Fort Streets converge.
“It will look like it did 100 years ago,” says Quinn
There will be a new educational program for children at this year’s festival called Tall Ships University. Program co-ordinator Jamie Webb describes Tall Ships “U” as a continuation of the curriculum from Pirate School, offered in 2005 when the ships were here last. Children will learn knot tying and other nautical skills from CF sailors.
Children six and under are free. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Tourism Victoria Tourist InfoCentre at 812 Wharf Street, over the phone at 1-800-663-3883 or online at www.tallshipsvictoria.ca. Early bird tickets end April 30.
