The Commander, Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) is the institutional head of the Royal Canadian Navy. The Commander RCN is based at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa, Ontario.

A native of Taber, Alberta, Vice-Admiral Ron Lloyd received his Bachelor of Arts in Military & Strategic Studies from Royal Roads Military College in 1985, and his Master of Arts in War Studies from Royal Military College in 2004. After initial naval officer training, he navigated HMC Ships Iroquois, Yukon, Terra Nova, and Annapolis before joining Venture, the Naval Officer Training Centre, as a navigation instructor.

Over his career, he served as the Combat Officer in HMCS Calgary, Combat Officer Sea Training Pacific, Executive Officer HMCS Ottawa, Commanding Officer HMCS Charlottetown, Commanding Officer HMCS Algonquin, Commander Canadian Fleet Atlantic, and Commander Canadian Fleet Pacific, deploying numerous times around the world.

VAdm Lloyd has held various positions at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa, including Executive Secretary to the Chief of Maritime Staff, Director General Maritime Force Development and Chief of Force Development, and was appointed Deputy Commander Royal Canadian Navy in July 2013. VAdm Lloyd was promoted to his current rank in June 2016, and became the 35th Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy and Chief of the Naval Staff on 23 June 2016.
