CTF 150, a multinational coalition fleet, was established in October 2001, in the early days of Operation Enduring Freedom. It conducts maritime security and counter-terrorism operations in the Gulf of Aden, the Gulf of Oman, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean.

“In the coming week, our sailors aboard Charlottetown will work as part of a large international coalition that continues Canada’s leadership in international security,” said Minister MacKay. “I’m proud of the service and accomplishments that the men and women of HMCS Charlottetown have achieved while deployed in support of Operation Active Endeavour in the Mediterranean Sea. Their transition to the Arabian Sea region demonstrates Canada’s resolve to make a difference in the world.”

Canada has regularly contributed ships to CTF 150 since its inception. Most recently, HMCS Fredericton was deployed to the region under CTF 150 from October 2009 to April 2010. Notably, from June to September of 2008, Canada commanded CTF 150.

HMCS Charlottetown has been supporting Operation Active Endeavour, NATO’s counter-terrorism effort in the Mediterranean Sea, since late January. In that time she has travelled more than 13,000 nautical miles conducting maritime security operations and helping to set the conditions for security and stability at sea in the region.
